Helmet Policy & Recommendations
While helmet rules vary by region, most shows require them at the academy and tournament levels. In performance, riders won’t be penalized for wearing one—even if it’s less common.
Helmets are strongly recommended for all lesson students. Choose one that fits snugly and doesn’t slide over the eyes. Adjustable backs are ideal for growing riders.
If showing is in your future, stick with black. Style meets safety—without compromise.

Rider Footwear Guidance: Start Strong, Ride Right
For your first few lessons, we recommend wearing closed-toe shoes with a small heel—such as tennis shoes or similarly supportive footwear. While cowboy boots may be suitable for western riding, they are not ideal for saddle seat or dressage. Their structure can interfere with proper heel placement and foot alignment, which are essential for balanced riding in these disciplines.
When you're ready to invest in riding boots, Jodhpur boots—also known as paddock boots—are typically worn by saddle seat riders for both lessons and shows. Available in pull-on and zip-up styles, these boots offer the flexibility and support needed for refined performance. They can be found at most equestrian retailers or online at a range of price points.
